A Quick Guide to Renting Campervans With Karma Campervans
We’re a Pretty Awesome Group with Great Campervan Rentals
If you’re thinking about renting a camper in Canada, we’re glad to know you’re considering renting with us at Karma Campervans. From the moment you book your campervan rental to when you pick up your campervan to hitting the open road and back again, we want your journey with our campervan rental company to be a special one.
Booking Policies
- Payment
Karma Campervans accepts major credit cards via our online booking system. We require full payment at the time of booking.
Note: For international payment cards, an International Transaction Fee of 3% may also be charged by our payment provider.
A refundable damage deposit of $1000 (or $5,000 depending on your insurance coverage level) will be charged to your payment method up to seven days before you pick up. After dropping off, the damage deposit will be back in your pocket within seven days, assuming the campervan is in great shape, fuel is full, and no other policies have been broken as per our Rental Agreement.
- Damage
Renters will be responsible for ANY damage to the vehicle exterior, tires, interior and contents while the vehicle is in their possession and prior to us checking it in after it is returned.
It is the Renter’s responsibility to thoroughly check the campervan prior to leaving Karma Campervans’ premises for any damage not recorded on the Vehicle Condition Report, which is found in the campervan, and notify us via email with supporting imagery. We also highly recommend that Renter’s take detailed photos or videos of the campervan when they drop off at our premises. The Renter authorizes Karma Campervans to charge the payment card on file for the full cost of damages plus applicable administration and potential loss of revenue fees. - Vehicle Protection Packages
Your safety, the safety of others, and the safety of our property is a priority for us at Karma Campervans.
And in keeping with the Karma Campervans way, we’ve tried to make our vehicle protection packages as simple as possible for our Guests. Effective June 2021, You will need to have either your own personal vehicle insurance that covers “cargo van rentals” or other supplemental insurance coverage such as travel insurance or upgrade to include our vehicle protection package add-ons to rent with us. For more information about the vehicle protection packages when renting a campervan, please visit our Vehicle Protection Packages Overview.
- Accidents and Breakdowns
If an accident occurs, please refer to your Rental Agreement and contact us as soon as possible.
If it’s an emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately. If an accident occurs and the damage is potentially over $2,000, a police report from the office of the jurisdiction of the incident is required, and you must contact Karma Campervans. If the campervan breaks down or requires a tow, please call roadside assistance. If there is a mechanical failure of an internal component of the campervan, we will do our best to repair the problem via phone tech support and get you on your way as quickly as possible. We may send a technician if we can fix the problem on-site and you are within 200 kms of one of our locations. If there is a catastrophic failure, we will supply you with another campervan if one is available. The renter is responsible for all incidental expenses incurred during a breakdown.
- Dog Policy
Since we clean and sanitize each campervan from top to bottom after each use, there’s an extra $120 cleaning fee for your lovely dog. Please do not let your pet on the bed, or an extra cleaning and bedding replacement fee will be applied. Cats are not allowed due to allergy concerns.
- Smoking Policy
No smoking is permitted in the campervan or within close proximity of the campervan. Smoke odours in the returned Rental will result in an additional cleaning fee of $1,000 plus replacement costs.
- Age Restriction
Renters must be 25 years or older to rent a Karma Campervan. Sorry kids.
- Pick Up and Drop Off
Pick up is any time after 12:00 pm local time. Early pick up is available for an additional fee as an add-on. Drop off is on or before 11:59 pm on your last rental day. There is a $200/hr late fee for rentals not returned on time.
- Kilometre Allowance
All rentals include 200 KM/paid night calculated cumulatively over the course of your trip. Pre-Paid Kilometres Packages are available ranging from $0.35/KM to $0.45/KM (non-refundable). If you go over this amount and did non pre-pay for additional kilometres, you will be charged $0.50/KM.
- Citations, fines and tolls
The renter is responsible for all citations, fines and tolls while the vehicle is in their possession. If Karma Campervans receives a citation after the rental, you authorize us to pay the ticket amount on your behalf. Karma Campervans is then authorized to charge the credit card on file the fine amount plus a $50 service fee as per our Rental Agreement.

Frequently Asked Questions
We have six great locations across Canada and they can be found on our locations page.
If you’re driving, just point your trusty mobile phone map to our address or Google us. For anyone flying to either location, you’ll want to grab a taxi or Uber to our location.
Anyone 25 years or older with a valid full driver’s license and good driving record in your country.
Our campervan conversions have been handcrafted by our build team right here in Calgary. We believe people want to roam and get back to nature but do it in a way that’s modern, rustic and with a small footprint at the same time. Our customers want the comforts of RVs but are willing to adhere to a minimalist experience – a “take what one needs” approach. To that end, we’ve omitted water tanks, major plumbing (e.g. toilet and shower), extensive electrical and some of the more complicated components that an RV would have. We think you’ll find our campervans perfect for your road trip without these expensive, excessive add-ons.
We love you. We really do. But please do not: smoke in the campervan (of any kind), have more than two people using the van when in transit or a car seat, drive off-road, use the camping stove inside, go on the roof, tow anything, or break the law. Just like all campervan rental companies would say, we ask that you use the van as you would your own campervan, not like you rented it.
Yes! Visit our One-Way RV Rentals information page for details.
For the most part, you can boondock in Canada except at a few select locations, including some national parks. It’s pretty common knowledge that you can park overnight in a rest stop, truck stop, secret beachside hideaway, or Walmart parking lot without too much hassle. We’d suggest letting a manager or owner of the property know first and be open about it. Canadians are nice people (didn’t you know?), and it’s a good bet they’ll let you stay there.
There are built-in Eberspacher (“Espar”) heaters, which run off the fuel tank and battery power and keep the van toasty warm. If you’re camping in the winter or during inclement weather below -10C, we suggest booking campsites with access to regular power outlets in the event you need to top up the house batteries. If you’re going on a summer vacation, we have in-dash air conditioning to keep you cool during your travels.
There are two 100 amp-hour AGM batteries that power the lights, USB outlets, heater and inverter. The batteries are constantly charged by a 100 or 280 Watt solar panel and a charge line from the chassis battery. During the winter, these batteries deplete faster, which is why we recommend booking campsites with the ability to plug into a regular 110V power outlet to keep batteries topped up. In general, you should be able to use the recreational vehicle without plugging in for at least four days in a row.
Our campervans come in two layout options! The first option is a cozy 2-seater model, featuring a comfortable queen bed, perfect for couples or solo travelers. The second option is a spacious 4-seater, designed with two queen-sized bunk beds, making it ideal for families or groups of friends.
Both options are available in either rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) to meet your adventure needs.
