New coffee partner – Eclipse from Canmore, Alberta

When we first started Karma Campervans we were excited to partner with many local brands, businesses and associations. And as many of you know already, each campervan rental comes with a complementary bag of freshly roasted coffee, ready to be enjoyed in the French press provided in each van. So of course, we wanted to connect with local coffee roasters and cafes, offering their coffee to our guests.

For the past month and into August, we’ve partnered with Canmore, Alberta’s Eclipse Coffee Roasters, who was well known by our Fleet Technician, Max, who spent many a day at Eclipse when he lived in Canmore.

Established in 2014, Eclipse is a specialty Omni-roaster who takes great care to roast 15-20 different types of coffee, ready to be enjoyed at any moment. Nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Eclipse is the perfect match for Karma, as their Signature Blend is a smooth, well-rounded everyday coffee perfect for French Press brewing and enjoying amidst our beautiful Rockies or breathtaking prairie landscapes.

We sat down with the team at Eclipse to get a bit more info about who they are and their coffee:

Tell us about Eclipse

Eclipse Coffee Roasters is a specialty coffee roaster that sources coffee from some of the best farms around the world. We pride ourselves on the quality of our coffee and how it is grown and sourced in a sustainable way.

Who are the founders?

Dean Smolicz is the founder of Eclipse Coffee. The business started as Rave Coffee five years ago and has just recently transitioned to Eclipse Coffee Roasters

Tell us about the beans you use

All the single origin coffee beans we source go through an independent screening process to ensure they are grown responsibly both environmentally but also socially. A lot of the farms we choose financially support local incentives including schools and hospitals within their community. Once we are happy with the background check we receive samples from the farm which are roasted and cupped alongside coffees from other farms and a final decision is made on the results of this tasting.

You recently went through a name change. What is the significance of “Eclipse”?

Eclipse was founded on the principle ‘to go beyond’. We are always looking to improve our quality, our customer service and impact on the environment.

Do you like to camp/travel/trek? Can you or some team members share their top hiking spots in the Bow valley/Banff?

We love to travel/camp/trek! We have employees from all over the world (Australia, UK, Czech Republic, Canada). We love to visit new places and explore our own mountainous backyard!

Some of our favourite hikes in the area are Tunnel mountain in Banff, its great for beginners and new people top the area, one of our staff’s other favourite hikes when they are feeling ambitious is Lady MacDonald.
